Combined Challenges from Long-Term Outdoor Exposure

Architectural applications include aluminium profiles, doors and windows, curtain walls, metal panels and railings. Coatings must withstand UV exposure, rain, humidity, temperature changes and atmospheric pollution while maintaining colour, gloss and surface appearance and reducing corrosion risk. Large projects also require consistent colour, gloss and texture across batches and components.

Select the Coating System by Environment and Design Life

    • General exterior metal products: standard-durable polyester.
    • Architectural doors, windows, railings and aluminium profiles with higher requirements: high-durable polyester.
    • Curtain walls, premium aluminium panels and high-UV environments: super-durable polyester.
  • Steel components or more corrosive environments: epoxy primer with a polyester topcoat.
  • Veri Coating offers HAA and TGIC smooth and textured products across standard, high and super-durable grades. The standard range uses TGIC, while the high and super-durable ranges include both HAA and TGIC options.

Standards and Key Performance Indicators

  • High-durable grades can reference QUALICOAT Class 1, GSB Standard and AAMA 2603 where stated in the selected TDS.
  • Super-durable grades can reference QUALICOAT Class 2, GSB Master and AAMA 2604.
  • High-durable grades can achieve at least 50% gloss retention after 1,000 hours of xenon-arc exposure.
  • Super-durable grades can achieve at least 90% gloss retention after 1,000 hours.
  • Salt spray, condensation, adhesion, colour change and gloss change are also key indicators.

Edge Coverage and Curing Risks

Profile recesses, railing welds, edges and joints are prone to low film build. Heavy components may be under-cured if the actual metal temperature is insufficient. Textured finishes are sensitive to film-thickness variation, which can affect texture, gloss and colour. Full-part trials are recommended before volume production.

Future Trend: Longer Service Life and Lower Environmental Impact

Architectural coatings are moving toward longer weathering life, lower-temperature curing, TGIC-free systems, chrome-free pretreatment and tighter control of restricted substances. Future selection will place greater emphasis on the coordination of powder, substrate, pretreatment, primer-topcoat system and curing conditions.

Business Case

Weather-Resistant Powder Coating for Custom Window & Door Profiles

Customer Profile

Feiyu Windows, a leading Chinese custom window and door brand, operates more than 900 retail stores nationwide. The project supports long-term supply for its aluminium window and door profiles.

Applications

Aluminium profiles for custom windows and doors, mainly in dark grey metallic colors, with matte smooth and textured finishes, based primarily on TGIC-cured systems.

Project Summary

Supply has continued since 2018, with annual consumption exceeding 1,000 tonnes. The project focuses on metallic color stability, color consistency after cutting and frame assembly, and outdoor durability to support a 10-year weathering warranty.

Custom windows and doors installed in residential projects, with close control of color consistency across the full frame.
Dark grey metallic powder coating applied to window, door and large glazed facade profiles.

Requirements

Long-term metallic color stability with controlled batch-to-batch variation

No visible color difference after cutting and frame assembly

Uniform, consistent appearance across matte smooth and textured finishes

Support a 10-year outdoor weathering warranty

Suitable for long-term, high-volume supply

Large interior window systems showing a consistent dark grey appearance.
Project team reviewing profile surface condition and color appearance on site.

Validation

Weathering performance verified against AAMA 2603

After 1,500 hours of damp-heat exposure, only very limited blistering was observed

After 1,000 hours of salt spray exposure, scribe creep was 1–2 mm

After 1 year of Florida outdoor exposure, only slight color change was observed

Annual supply exceeds 1,000 tonnes and remains ongoing
