# Home Appliances

Powder coatings for appliance housings: pure epoxy and epoxy-polyester hybrid with GT0 adhesion, 1,000h salt-spray and 480h humidity resistance.

Parent application: [Home & Living](https://www.vericoating.com/applications/home-consumer-products.md)

## Appearance consistency, cleaner resistance and thin-sheet compatibility

Home appliances include refrigerator, washing-machine and air-conditioner housings, as well as kitchen appliances. Prolonged exposure to hot and humid conditions and frequent chemical cleaning requires strong humidity and chemical resistance.

Veri Coating offers textured pure epoxy and textured or smooth epoxy-polyester hybrid powder coatings with GT0 adhesion, 1,000-hour neutral salt-spray resistance and 480-hour humidity resistance without blistering or delamination. The products are 100% solids and solvent-free; textured grades conceal substrate defects, while smooth grades provide good flow.

Application notes: Castings should be preheated for degassing, thin sheet should not be over-baked, and the recommended film thickness is 60-90 um.

## Typical Powder Coating Challenges for Home Appliances

### Discolouration and Coating Failure at Elevated Service Temperatures

Ovens, heaters and metal parts near heat sources experience prolonged high temperatures or thermal cycling. Conventional decorative powders may yellow, lose gloss, chalk, crack or lose adhesion when actual exposure exceeds normal indoor-appliance conditions.

Discolouration and Coating Failure at Elevated Service Temperatures：Prolonged heat can cause yellowing and cracking, requiring better thermal stability and controlled baking.

**Formulation Design**

- Select heat-resistant resins, pigments and stabilisers for the long-term service temperature rather than relying only on short bake tests.
- An epoxy-polyester hybrid may suit indoor parts at moderate temperatures; higher temperatures require a dedicated heat-resistant powder coating.

**Process Control**

- Measure actual temperature and thermal cycling at the location closest to the heat source instead of relying only on the appliance rating.
- Prevent overbake in the curing oven so light-coloured products do not yellow during production.
- Set separate film-thickness, cure and acceptance criteria for high-temperature parts and ambient-temperature decorative parts.

**Validation Focus**

- Colour difference after long-term heat ageing
- Gloss retention after heat
- Cracking after thermal cycling
- Adhesion after heat

### Flow and Particle Control on High-End Decorative Surfaces

Large flat panels and high-gloss components on refrigerators, washing machines and premium small appliances accentuate orange peel, craters, particles and colour variation. The powder's flow window, substrate flatness, booth cleanliness and cure uniformity all affect final appearance.

Flow and Particle Control on High-End Decorative Surfaces：High-gloss surfaces reveal particles and orange peel, requiring optimised flow, filtration and cleanliness.

**Formulation Design**

- Select a high-flow epoxy-polyester hybrid and balance resin viscosity, flow-control agent, degassing agent and cure rate.
- Control pigment and extender dispersion and particle-size distribution to reduce surface defects from coarse particles and gel particles.

**Process Control**

- Strengthen controls during extrusion, grinding, sieving and magnetic foreign-material removal, and sieve the powder as specified before use.
- Keep the booth, hangers and compressed air clean to prevent silicone contamination, fibres and dust inclusions.
- Verify oven uniformity and the part heat-up profile to prevent local poor flow or colour variation from overbake.

**Validation Focus**

- Flow/orange-peel rating
- Particle count
- Cratering and contamination defects
- Batch-to-batch colour and gloss variation
